I was in exactly the same boat as you a couple months ago, my mail servers were at 9.0.1, but my main webserver was still at 8.5.3 because of a hotfix for a problem that took almost 2 years to diagnose & fix. I was planning more or less to leave it at 8.5.3 for fears of a regression in 9.x - but my hand was forced because of the SHA-2 issue. Fortunately there was no regression.
To prepare, though, I gleaned what I could from the Notes 9 forum, and fortunately had a server that isn't used for http that I could 'test' with.
I'm a little surprised that these issues haven't been talked about more here in the 8.5 forum. Or, for that matter, the 6 & 7 forum. There was LOTS of discussion in the Notes 9 forum starting around October - but since IF1 was release the discussions have tapered off quite a bit...
Oh, and admin work is the best!
Except, of course, for trying to predict the outcome of Policy changes. Or....

I assume that you, like me, wear many hats. I'm the admin & designer, but also do admin & programming on another (system i) platform and a handful of other things. It make for interesting work!
